Life science has been renowned as one of the most promising sciences in the 21st century, encompassing basic to applied technologies. Main objectives of the Division are to render students experience broad spectra of biological sciences and develop global-minded inspiration and pride. The Division pursues excellent education and research programs on fundamental principles of life sciences, utilization of bioresources and biotechnology. With these aims in mind, the Division offers two major educational programs, one for the basic biology including anatomy, cytology, biochemistry, genetics, embryology, physiology, immunology, systematics and biodiversity, and the other for the applied technology comprising utilization of natural resources, biotechnology of microorganisms, breeding, seed production, and food science and processing. The Division also directs students to grasp modern biology and technology on molecular aspects of cell and tissue engineering, functional biomaterials, and industrial applications of bioresources.
The Division of Biological Science and Technology (BST) was first come into the community of Yonsei University in the year 2008. Wonju Campus of Yonsei had developed two departments in the fields of life science, Department of Life Science and Department of Biological Resources and Technology. Because both groups share similar educational and research directions, strong intension led the departmental members to consolidate the two in pursuit of higher and more fascinating goals for the now-flourishing "Bio" era.
When students complete required undergraduate courseworks, the Yonsei confers the students Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree with the major of BST. Graduates may continue higher levels of study in master and doctorate programs of the two Departments by 2008, or in the Department of Biological Science and Technology that will be launched from 2009. Graduates may further extend their research ambition in national or international institutions, in pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and food processing industries, or seek for teacher careers in middle or high schools. |
