Welcome to the Department of Russian Language and Literature at Yonsei University. Ours is a department with, on the one hand, establishing a proud tradition of academic excellence and international prominence, on the other hand, a faculty fully invested in the intellectual questions and concerns of today. In the main, our faculty comprises young scholars who are already recognized leaders in their respective areas.

Our department is distinctive in a number of ways. First of all, our curriculum embraces the wide range of subject areas. In both undergraduate and graduate education, students can emphasize their study in areas as diverse as linguistics, second-language acquisition, literary analysis and literary theories, in conjunction with faculty members who are prominent in that field.

Second, students can accumulate unique academic experience through original texts and diverse methodologies in the fields of literature and linguistics. In particular, the literary scholarship and comprehension power to understand linguistics are integrated in a number of courses and the research interests of several faculty members. Accordingly, students are encouraged to combine various points of view ultimately in order to establish their own unique academic research point.

Third, it is our goal not only to serve the students well in the classroom, but also to make them keep in touch with diverse streams of contemporary academic scholarship. Also, our investments towards the application of new teaching methodology to classroom instruction is forthcoming, and such efforts are ongoing in our department.
