The Department of Sport and Leisure Studies began in 1992 for teaching new visions of sport and leisure studies and for bringing up sports leaders in order to adapt to modern society's sport and leisure needs. Especially, the department has a unique system which was the first of its kind in that field for providing socio-cultural studies of sports, leisure and recreation, sports management and sport sociology in terms of the specialization of each discipline. It served as a significant part from which the needs of modern Korean sports and leisure participation were accomplished, and it has continued to contribute to the development of Korean movement of sports for all. The department now serves as the center for balance of academic and practice of sports and leisure fields in Korean society. The Department of Sport and Leisure Studies possesses all the necessary attributes to become one of the best departments of learning, teaching and researching in the world. In this respect, it is devoted to the education and training of promising scholars and sports leaders who can lead the sport and leisure field in Korea.
